Sitting and Moving with Ease with Sukhita Yoga

Join Hugh Poulton and Sarah Haden for an introduction to Sukhita Yoga, an approach to movement and daily life which embodies the principles of TWIM. In an hour long session you will find out the first principles of how:

TWIM comes alive in movement supporting longer sits and your physical health
To connect mind and body with the 6Rs in movement supporting your embodied awareness in daily life situations

To experience the power of smiling in movement and feel the WOW of the Buddha's teaching from another perspective

To let loving kindness bring renewal to your body and mind

To learn how your body can feel spacious and balanced as well as your mind with right effort and compassion

About Sukhita Yoga

Sukhita Yoga is a training in mindfulness through yoga to take care of your body and your mind for your health, happiness and balance.

Using familiar yoga postures as a framework, Sukhita Yoga encourages subtle states of awareness based on the principles of TWIM (and the 6R meditation process). It is a great aid to longer sits as well as your physical wellbeing. The practice emphasises growing the capacity for a mind and body that is free of tension and inviting a softness around challenge and difficulty that is implicitly compassionate. In this way the principles of TWIM meditation (and the 6R meditation process) are brought to life through the physical form.

When you practice Sukhita Yoga your awareness grows of how your body's reactions (pushing or resisting) in movement mirror your mental states (craving). Discovering the body's early warning system in this way is a great tool for situations in daily life when you need a physical cue as a touchstone for your mental state.
As you learn to let the power of smiling change your relationship to mental, physical and energetic tension, you inhabit a different way of moving. This is when you discover the capacity for energetic movement which is more subtle than the physical (as in tai chi, qi gong and yoga). Not only will you begin to feel more relaxed and fluid, but also you will feel an experience of renewal and space in your body and mind.

As you become more adept at letting go of any tension that arises, your body will have a greater transparency and lightness, becoming denser only when you experience the heaviness of your thoughts. Energetic expression within your body then becomes confirmation of a mind more in balance.

This gradual expansion of awareness through the physical, energetic and mental dimensions evolves into a moving meditation that supports your wellbeing and encourages you to integrate TWIM in all areas of your daily life.
